The coupe was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1985. Volvo has talked from the Italian bespoke suit and therewith refered to the styling by Bertone. The also produced the car up to 1990. Clearly visible is the target direction to the U.S. market, where Volvo has been very successful at the time.
The predecessor already built by Bertone was a two-door sedan with a shortened roof in principle. However, it had an impressive C-pillar. This is a better solution here. However, it was also not an easy task, to tailor a racy coupe in the still relatively angular design phase of Volvo. New, this elegance to combine with a diesel engine. 10/13
