2019 VW Passat

It is still the eighth generation, more precisely, its facelift, 30 million in 45 years. The figure '80', in percent, is often quoted for the Passat because it indicates both the proportion of cars ordered by companies and the proportion of the total Passat volume accounted for by the Variant. At the moment, only the Variant is being presented, a decision that leaves the IAA a little room for a small new introduction in autumn.

There are three Diesel engines, the smallest with 1.6 litres and the others with 2 litres: 88 kW (120 PS), 140 kW (190 PS), 176 kW (240 PS). The two petrol engines have the same displacement: 140 kW (190 hp) and 200 kW (272 hp). Except the smallest diesel and gasoline engine, they are available with all-wheel drive. A higher Alltrack version is also available for these engines. The promising new 2.0 TDI Evo with 110 kW (150 hp) comes a little later.

There will also be another GTE version with an increased battery capacity from 9.9 kWh to 13.0 kWh. With cautious use, this should make realistic 55 km purely electric drive possible. The engines, a petrol engine with 110 kW (150 PS) and an electric motor with 85 kW (115 PS) add up to only 160 kW (218 PS) because the power is available at different engine speeds.

Comparing prices is very complicated. The last Passat offers in 2019 were very rudimentary. After all, the smallest Diesel was cheaper, but only, like all current modells, with a double-clutch transmission. If you subtract that from today's price, you end up with just under €33,000. The smallest diesel engine with a little less power but the same torque was available in 2015, even with the 'Blue Motion' for 27,500 €, which means a full 5,500 € surcharge.

Surprisingly, the Passat limousine appears in the new price list. So at the moment only the press photos are missing. 06/19
