 2026 Toyota Corolla
The GR version of the Corolla, which is 14 kW more powerful than the combustion engine version, is currently rolling off the production line. Don't be fooled by the 5 million in October 2024 on the license plate,
which applies exclusively to production in Burnaston (UK).
Overall, the Corolla, now in its twelfth generation, has sold over 50 million units and would actually be the best-selling car in the world if it hadn't been so technically diverse. At least 1.25 million in Germany
between 1971 and 2023.
At the beginning of 2026, it will even be available in this country as a Touring Sports for €29,990, well equipped with light alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and fog lights, a 10.5" display, a 12.3" cockpit,
dual-zone
air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, and several safety assistants.
That's pretty much the least amount of effort required to hybridize a vehicle. One wonders what the powerful electric motor is for and where the Corolla gets its power from when you brake less. Certainly, if any manufacturer
has experience with hybrids, it's Toyota.
The Touring Sports in particular is certainly a very practical car for families, with an even longer wheelbase than the standard model. Plenty of space at an affordable price. But this is the result of a battery capacity of only
one kWh, which makes driving without a combustion engine almost impossible.
