 1950 Porsche 356
Quickly they had recognized that a mid-engined Porsche, although very sporty, but also quite impractical and also expensive with tubular frame. That's why in 1950 they went back to its beginnings. After having build 50
356 with aluminum body they returned from Gmünd in Austria to Stuttgart, where already in 1931 Porsche existed as a design company.
Because the former Porsche works were occupied by the Americans at the time, they quartered themselves at the opposing bodywork Reutter, which they later took over. The number '356' stands for the not quite exactly
continued project management of the original company. Somewhere inside, the VW Beetle would have to be found.
One will assign this first steel 356 from Stuttgart later to the 'pre-A' series. The 1.1L engine of the first two years was specifically quite powerful, had at least 12 kW (16 hp) more than the VW from which he descended.
The 1300s could not keep up as a successor. The first copies also do not have the so important oil filter and thus larger oil amount.
Here you see a disadvantage of the 356, the scarce front luggage compartment. Since custom-made bags or suitcases come just right. In the very early versions, a slatted frame in the luggage compartment was also
necessary because the front hood was prone to leaking. 01/18
