 Lexus LC 500 Convertible
| If 95 per cent of Lexus buyers choose a hybrid vehicle, how long will this car only with combustion
engine last? |
V8 convertibles, you will say, are available from every premium manufacturer. And then the first doubts arise. We take a look, always with the knowledge that this Lexus LC 500 has certainly not been placed without observing
the competition. It's quite simple with Audi, because there is the S5 Cabrio, but not with a V8 engine.
It is also difficult with BMW. In terms of dimensions, the new 4-series would fit the bill. It's not yet available as a convertible. But even if we wait, a V8 in the 4 Series is not in sight. May be the larger M 850i convertible,
apparently only available with all-wheel drive and much more expensive at over 135,000 euros.
And then the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet enters the scene. It has to be the S version, the weaker one can't keep up in terms of performance. Of course, it is not a naturally aspirated engine and has 'only' 4 litres of
displacement. Advantage: 255 instead of 288 g/km.
However, Mercedes is considering streamlining the model series. It is difficult to predict whether this will mean dropping the E-Class convertible or the one of the C-Class. It's not so fun to drive a car that is no longer in
production, especially if it's a convertible that will probably live a long time with little mileage.
Even the price of the Mercedes convertible can keep up, at least 18,000 euros less. But you can already hear the Lexus salesperson asking whether they have ever bothered to work through the Mercedes surcharge list. At
Lexus, many things are standard and there are only two additional packages.
.
Did we forget a car? At least one that must be mentioned when talking about V8-powered vehicles. Yep, he's still around and he's laughing because, Toyota salespeople will find the comparison unbearable, but a Ford
Mustang convertible with a V8 engine actually costs about half as much.
