1962 Lancia Flaminia

The new Carrozzeria Touring plant is to be fully utilized. Orders are needed, after all it builds the Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint above and the Maserati 3500 GT below for important companies. The Lancia Flaminia 3C GT Coupé was probably first offered to Alfa. Now Lancia has been won as a new customer, previously mainly associated with Pininfarina..

You can still see it on the car when you open the hood. The inline six-cylinder from Alfa would have fit in there, too. This leaves a lot of space for the V6 of Lancia developed from the Aurelia (picture below). It is located almost completely behind the front axle and is also made of aluminum. Together with the rear transmission (transaxle) and the DeDion rear axle, this results in a chassis that is unprecedented doing well for its time.

So Touring builds the bodies including the complete interior for all three companies. Afterwards the mechanics are completed by the actual manufacturer. The first Flaminia GT with the form shown here still have the V6 with 2.5 litres capacity and only a double carburetor. The then used 2.8 is highly praised. Intrusive? With the power or the torque yes, concerning the noise level no.

The even greater speciality of this Lancia GT seems to be the bodywork. Especially light ('Superleggera') to build is a speciality of Touring. First of all there is a framework of bars, over which thin aluminum sheets are drawn then. However, the convertible is not very light because of enormous reinforcements in the underbody.

Already at that time you couldn't pay attention to the money, nevertheless, the Lancia was particularly highly taxed because of its engine with more than 2 litres in Italy. But also otherwise a Lancia was quite expensive. This reduced its sales potential. But Touring seems to have suffered even more from this. In 1966 the factory gates had to be closed.
