Kamaz

Kamaz es el mayor fabricante de camiones de Rusia y el mayor fabricante de automóviles en la Russian Federation. The company is located in Naberezhnye Chelny, a city 250 km east of Kazan and a good 1,000 km from Moscow in the Tatarstan province, which has grown to around 500,000 inhabitants with its development. After Kamaz was founded in 1969, the first truck including its own diesel engine rolled off the production line in 1976, later also its own buses and an incredible number of vehicles of all kinds for the military.

Kamaz now has an extensive network of production facilities, e.g. in Kazakhstan, Vietnam, India and an assembly plant in Azerbaijan. There is a main shareholder called Rostec with almost 50 percent and two significant additional shareholders, a company based in Cyprus with 23.5 percent and, last but not least, Daimler AG with 15 percent.

In Naberezhnye Tschelny, in addition to the engines, the other sub-groups required for truck construction, e.g. the frame, the driver's cab and even the machine tools, are manufactured in various plants. The company employs around 36,000 people. One rightly pride oneself particularly on the successes in off-road truck races, including 16 victories in the Dakar Rally, and in 2011 even the first four places.

Kamaz traditionally produces trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 14 to 40 tons. The range has been expanded significantly in recent years, both downwards and upwards with special vehicles. Electric buses are already in mass production, and there is already a prototype of one with a hydrogen drive. A joint venture with ZF has existed since 2005, further connections e.g. with Knorr-Bremse, Liebherr and Palfinger-Gerüst, to name just the German companies.

In 2012 the two millionth truck rolled off
the assembly line.

The beginning of the cooperation with Daimler go back to the year 2008, when 10 percent of the Kamaz shares were acquired. Kamaz has been a joint stock company since 1990. Since 2009 there have been two joint ventures, Fuso Kamaz Trucks Rus and Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok, and since 2012 a cooperation in the production of driver's cabs. Daimler makes available the of the Axor series. A joint venture has also existed here since 2015 with the Hawtai Motor Group in China.
