A difficult development process? Not really exept the design. The most important technical components were already there. Insofar at Jaguar not existing, already taken over from Land Rover. Even the diesel engine runs already as Jaguar XE. And the former Mondeo platform was reworked even for XE and XF.

Task of design was to create a body with enough SUV space and the sporty image of Jaguar (last video). You can't see it from outside, but it is made of aluminum. Nevertheless, the car compete with Porsche Macan and BMW X4. We will see if there follows a 2WD variant.

With the 2 liter diesel and without the 8-speed automatic would be still room down towards 40,000 euros. In ancient times a special value for money was a hallmark of Jaguar. Whether that and the function of the tacho with real pointers (figure 2) is sufficient to excite the more the tradition committed Jaguar fans for the entirely new product?
