2021 Ford F150 Lightning





What's to say about the fact that individual comments assign a possible base price of $ 35,000 to this vehicle in the USA, mind you for trade without taxes, but also without the deduction of relevant subsidies. How can that be when the battery already makes up a third of this sum in principle?

Because Ford will not dare to offer such a giant with less than 100 kWh, where it is already approved for a trailer load of 3.5 tons. One possible explanation: The cheapest version is an option for almost no customers, the list of surcharges is exceptionally attractive.


Quite possible, because three times the purchase price should also be possible and the car salesmen in the USA are masters of their trade. Not even Mercedes manages that e.g. with surcharge lists of around 100 pages. Of course, this also means that the division into different variants and additional equipment remains worthwhile for the manufacturer.

But fear not, the F150 is probably still not just the best-selling car in the USA. However, the all-electric version is only available with a double cabin, presumably because of the substructure with the batteries. But everything here seems to be effectively organized, because there is still space for the 'frunk', with 400 liters, it is absolutely the largest of any electric car.


Up to 180 kg can be loaded there, two golf bags fit in. This luggage compartment also has a water drain, as is now more common at Ford. Overall, the weight and probably also its distribution is monitored. The measurements should even have an influence on the range display. Even a possible trailer should be included.


And then there's also bidirectional charging. In the more expensive versions, the Lightning can deliver up to 9.6 kW, supposedly enough to supply a house with electricity for three days. Extraction points are in the front in the frunk (picture below) and in the back. Also very practical for craftsmen when there is no power connection on the construction site.


A new plant is being built especially for the F150 Lightning.
