The design is not attractive enough for most testers. The accentuations in the sills, wheel arches, and bumpers do not meet their expectations. Additionally, they criticize the car for resembling the Smart #1.
Yes, the design of the C-pillar shows some similarity, but otherwise, the car has its own distinct character. The BYD Atto 2 faces harsh criticism regarding its charging performance, which proves to be quite unsuitable for
longer trips.
The Smart has a higher charging capacity and battery capacity, which is even stated as a net value. However, it is also €5,000 more expensive. The motor performance is less important, but it does have 70 kW more. The
BYD Dolphin is getting closer in price to the Atto 3.
The touchscreen of the Smart is only available in the Atto 2 with a €2,000 more expensive upgrade package. This touchscreen is also rotatable with motor power. On the other hand, the display behind the steering wheel is
slightly larger than in the Smart. The absence of paddles for controlling regeneration is a downside for the BYD.
While a frunk, like in the Smart, can still be installed later on. The Atto 2 impresses with the interior trim of the dashboard, center console, and doors. Such a gear knob has not even been seen in higher classes yet.
