29 years pass since the legendary 328 until BMW again brings a Roadster (two-seat convertible). The drive system is from the 525i. However, with less than 4 meters the Z1 was clearly shorter and also much lighter, what benefits the driving performances.
However, of this technique at the shell is not much to see. The Z-series is created in a specially established company with many new ideas in a record time. Probably, no roadster had doors which could disappear up to the beam. The construction is not entirely unproblematic but certainly good for the body stiffness. The car never became an economic success but it founded the newly created Z-series, and remains of this a very popular collector's item. 06/12
