What we know for sure so far from the facelift of the new A3 is that the radiator grille has become flatter and wider and has interestingly shaped openings. However, this takes less and less account of the fact that you can see various radiators shimmering behind them.


The side air inlets, which are probably open for the sporty variants, are also strange. Although they have always been aerodynamically questionable, they are certainly not helpful when closed. As usual with a facelift, there are new colors.


Only playful people know what the new lighting design you can choose from inside is all about. Coming and Leaving Home was already a revelation, now it all becomes a production, of course also rear. What's nice and simple is that there is no connection between the lights.


The textile decorative inlays receive our approval, but the light circus that is now also used in the compact class rather not. It's unbelievable how many functions can now be added for specific times. These are not just smartphone services, but also security services. However, adaptive cruise control is available elsewhere for free.


One can only assume that the standard automatic climate control has all the capabilities of one for two zones, because that can also be booked. Doesn't that make the standard one more expensive? Yes, it's not just an electric car that requires more planning if you just want to go on vacation.

As has recently become common practice, the gear lever has also been rationalized away. The advantage is that you can put something on the newly designed center console during a break. It's good that the digital cockpit and LED lighting are also available as standard in the basic version, while matrix light is available for higher equipment.

Only the two versions mentioned above are available at launch. However, further petrol/diesel variants and a plug-in hybrid will probably follow this year with a larger battery and thus a purely electric range.


And then there is the new A3 allstreet, which, in contrast to an 'allroad', does not indicate all-wheel drive, but rather a lift of 3 cm, approx. 1.5 cm by the chassis, the rest because of the tires.
