  2009 X1

BMW X1 (E 86) 1.995 cm3, R4, 200 Nm 3600 rpm, 110 kW (150 CV) 6400 rpm, 6-speed (automatic), 191 g/km, discs, internally ventilated at the front, 4,45/2,76/1,8/1,55 m, 420-490 liters from 1.505 kg, 200 km/h, 57.900 €

In 2015 the first series of the X1 (from 2009) was face lifted. Some testers are so enthusiastic that they almost speak of a new series. The 'old' was based too much on the 1 series. Of course, due to its compactness, it forced the manufacturer to create lines that were unfamiliar to BMW fans. Making it bigger created the same problem for the X1.

There was still another reason to speak of a new series, because the new X1 was derived from the approx. 10 cm shorter 2-series Tourer with UKL2 platform, i.e. a front-wheel drive car as sDrive. As a result, its conception also changed as xDrive, because the drive unit installed transversely at the front was retained and 'only' one drive train was added to the rear axle. The first X1 was more closely related to the X3.

BMW X1 (F 48) 1.995 cm3, R4, 400 Nm 1750 rpm, 140 kW (190 CV) 4000 rpm, Front engine transverse, all-wheel drive, 8-speed automatic, 187 g/km, discs, internally ventilated at the front, 4,44/2,67/1,82 (2,06)/1,6 m, 505-1.505 liters from 1.660 (485) kg, 220 km/h, from approx. 40.000 €

As a result of this change, the car had more space despite 1.5 cm less length and 9 cm less wheelbase, but mainly in the luggage compartment. It was actually astonishing that the wheelbase had become smaller with the new platform. The curb weight did not show a significant decrease either. In return, the car was now even higher on the inside and thus beat by far its competitor, the Mercedes GLA, who was striving for a better look.

What the potential owners of a newer X1 were particularly impressed by, it looked more similar to the X3 or even X5, although a good 8,000 or almost 18,000 euros cheaper. The dashboard also looked similar to that of the X3. However, the seats and armrests were again borrowed from the 2 Series Tourer.

Autonomous driving could not yet be called what the X1 offered for a surcharge, because it was tied to too many conditions. However, the head-up display, which was available in the same way, could now be seen again on the windshield instead of on plastic cards. Unfortunately, the choice of ECO mode had to be renewed after every engine start.

The X1 from 2015 only reached 5th place in the registration statistics, which was probably due to higher acquisition costs. Because compared to the market leader VW Tiguan, the diesel version (data above) was both lighter and a little more economical. By the way, around 80 percent of buyers ordered pure front-wheel drive, even though it was only available for less powerful engines.
