Self reinforcement of a drum (blue) compared to a disc brake(green)

The diagram (blue = drum brake, green = disc brake) shows once more, the stronger amount of self-amplification of the drum brake. Since the circumferential force is proportional to the tension force and the braking characteristic value, it can generate, having the same coefficient of sliding friction, a higher braking characteristic value and hence more circumferential force.
