Trailer - Refrigerated Box Trailer
Granted, there are already fully electric cooling units with LiIo batteries, but so far only for distribution transport. They can hardly be found on trailers which were parked somewhere without towing vehicle. Basically, a
continuous temperature must be ensured. It is e.g. with the tank level monitored continuously via telematics. Here is valid one of the many certifications.

The cooling unit at the picture above is connected to a large plastic tank, well protected under the chassis behind the trailer supports. It is not included in the 800 kg that weighs the cooling unit. It consists of a four-
cylinder diesel engine as a generator, with an injection pump and an electrically driven compressor.
The combustion engine does not drive this directly. Obviously you can not keep the temperature as accurate as it would be possible with the interposed electrical system. Also, operation on the grid without a diesel
engine is possible. Above this ensemble the huge condenser with two centrifugal blowers and special evaporation system against premature icing and provision for light cleansing.
The entire refrigerated box trailer weights only 8 tons, but can be loaded with up to 27 tons. Since it is also used for dry freight, it has corresponding installation variants on the inner walls. Three different temperatures
are possible by partitioning. By the way, because of pressure equalization, they are only sealed at the end by the operating lever at 90° position.
Chilled goods are subject to very special requirements. Additional evaporators are possible. These and LED lighting must be waterproof. There must be no puddles after intensive cleaning. Meat slope in rails with
switch points (1 : 5) on the ceiling is common. The meat rumbles more than once against the side walls.
At 2.6 m outside width, the sheets for aerodynamics are slightly offset inwards and therefore cut out for the wheels. The wall thickness is 7 cm, made of steel and polyurethane foam, the inside is reinforced because of
possible rumbling by GRP. Side doors and rails for double-decker loading are extras.
This refrigerated box is called a self-supporting construction. That means a continuous frame in vain. Both the frame for the wheels and the connection to a towing vehicle are attached to the box. This not only saves
curb weight, but also height. On chassis parts, bolted connections facilitate easier replacement.
More than 100 refrigerated cases are produced in Vreden (Germany) every day. With an investment of more than 100 million euros, a 'digital and automated factory' is to be created, which still allows 'maximum
individualization'. Estimate of the purchase price for a refrigerated box without extras: approx. 50,000 euros + VAT. 02/19
