2022 VW e-up

That's a small victory for consumers, namely the fact that VW has now promised to continue building the e-Up, albeit in a very limited number. Basically, you just don't need to stop production, because existing orders have been processed diligently in the past few months.

There seems to be a market for small electric cars, whether cheap, we'll get to that later. And it seems almost irrelevant whether they are built on a platform for cars with electric or combustion engines. Unfortunately, you have to reckon with the most expensive variant.

Does all this only work because of the possible deduction of 9,570 euros?

It's not in the configurator yet. Given the current demand, it will probably not remain open for long. VW is said to have lost up to 5,000 euros with each e-up so far. After all, it should now cost €26,500 instead of almost €22,000 after the battery was enlarged in 2019.

But the battery of the e-up alone should cost 13,000 euros

Hopefully there will also be little things like a plastic cover for the rear loading sill on board. In any case, cheaper models like the Seat Mii and the Škoda Citigo have long since disappeared from the scene. If you look at the design, rightly so.

It was actually a makeshift solution to use your own smartphone as the center display screen (but only in landscape format), but now it turns out to be a hit because you suddenly have access to software from VW, so-called old car owners of an ID are desperately waiting for it. In the e-Up, the smartphone is continuously charged, even when the car is stationary.

The e-up was the prettiest of the triplets, but nonetheless it had a design flaw. From the front it looks wider due to the pincer-like daytime running lights, but from the back it appears rather narrower due to the black tailgate and the taillights. This predestines it to be pushed from the left side of the highway. The Ups with combustion engines can drive on undisturbed.

The current dilemma when buying a car . . .

The e-up, with its 130 km/h limit, has to get in between trucks on two-lane highways. Now we also find out that the 61 kW (82 hp) is the peak performance, the car only has 40 kW (54 hp) permanently, but at least a great torque of 212 Nm. It's worth taking a look at the cheapest ID.3, which actually costs €31,900 but is not available at the moment.
