Smart becomes a Google competitor with a vehicle without a steering wheel and pedals, but much more handsome. Just impressive, how the doors open. The developers feared for incidents with cyclists if constructing conventional doors. However, the prototype seems to have little spring travel and no three-point belts.

The vehicle is part of the Connected, Autonomous, Shared & Services and Electric concept of the Daimler AG. The smart is promised until 2022 but only as one of 10 new electric cars. There is no date for Autonomous Driving.

So that it is not lost in the car-sharing, or is recognized by the person ordering, it is 'personalized'. In a black panel with a 44 inch diagonal, it shows directly the person it is destined for, so that nobody else can snatch it away.

This vision also answers the exciting question of whether an autonomous driving car needs low-beam or high-beam, clearly with 'No'. Front- and rear-lights are, of course, still present, but the latter are increasingly used for communication. According to the manufacturer, 'Shared' already works quite well. One of the 2.6 million customers in the world is rented a vehicle every 1.4 seconds.

Interesting are the already known data with 2.7 m length, 1.72 m width and 1.535 m height. According to today's forecast, it is to be equipped with a 30 kWh battery, which is almost double the current. 09/16
