The diesel engines are still from cast iron, at least in the cylinder block. It is also not so easy to give one of aluminum the necessary stability. The two smallest diesel have engines with two valves per cylinder with a camshaft. Even if the competitors makes it different, particularly disadvantageous it's not. The more powerful of both, there is additionally with 86 g/km.

The petrol engine are all direct injection and all aluminum engines. But unfortunately, with the largest of the three, the car is so heavy that a good 100 kg less payload remain opposite the lightest.

Interesting is just the smallest petrol engine. Let potential special conditions aside, the will be possible to the model start at Renault also, then you are well-off with almost 17,000 euros and 74 kW (100 HP) and can even afford the Experience equipment. After all, Renault gives even 5 years warranty.

The rated speed of the smallest petrol engine is with 4500/min already currently still unique. And it achieves its highest torque even earlier than the diesel engines. However, one may expect from 1.2 liter cubic capacity no wonder of liveliness from the turbo lag out. Changing gears is then necessary once again.

Calculating the CO2 emissions of the diesel with 95 and the of the smallest petrol engine with 120 g/km, then unfortunately come out still more than 40 percent increase in consumption. One may compare, yes. Whether one drives far with 47 liters? After all, the tank of the largest petrol car contains 50 liters.

Otherwise, Renault wants to come one class higher with the new Megane. One advertises with the seven- speed double-clutch gearbox (only for petrol) and endows just the heaviest model with Launch Control. Who needs it? More interesting is the attempt of the rear axle steerable from +1° to -2.7° which now also finds its way in the compact class.

Case of the assistants, of course, Renault shows no weaknesses. Even the plastic card to the Head Up Display is not missing. However, the base price doubles, if you order the GGT with a few additional extras. But in this respect, care must be taken at almost any car purchase. 12/15
