 2017 Renault 40 Years Formula 1
It took two more years until the first victory when Renault entered the Formula 1 in 1977. Preparations since 1975, e.g. bundling of activities under 'Renault Sport' south of Paris. They tried with a one from 2 to 1.5 liters
reduced four-cylinder, as a turbomotor half of the three-liter V8, new technology in the formula 1.
It is the famous Cosworth DFV, used in more than 12 teams against the Ferrari V12 (180°). A stormy period, as in earlier times always accompanied by accidents. But there were consequences, e.g. the too long and
unsafe northern part of the Nürburgring falls victim to. But also the evolving aerodynamics with effect for more ground adhesion and the Tyrell Ford with double front axle.
Renault was not taken seriously at first, had more problems with durability and responsiveness than with performance. Responsiveness was improved by two small instead of one large turbo charger a year after,
which nevertheless gave the first points. It took another 3 years to begin the triumph of the turbomotors with performances up to 735 kW (1000 HP).
2005 and 2006 (video above) are the years of great success, result for Renault in both, designer and driver title, mainly achieved by Fernando Alonso, 2008 3rd of the designers. In 2009 Renault will be the victim of the
new regulations. 2016 then the new beginning by takeover Lotus, meanwhile with Nico Hülkenberg again at 26 points. 07/17
