2017 Peugeot takes over Opel

This is, as far as one can remember, the first time that a French car manufacturer has taken over a German automobile company. Even with the cooperation between Daimler and Renault, Daimler certainly did of course not see itself as the weaker partner, rather the reverse. Nevertheless, Renault is e.g. together with Nissan 2015 the world's third largest producer.

However, vehicles from Germany still account for a third of all EU-produced vehicles, three and a half times as much as those from French factories. In Europe, PSA, together with Opel, could be in second place ahead of Renault / Nissan and behind VW, world-wide only from the tenth to the ninth, so Renault remains uninhibited here for PSA.

Astonishingly there already exist Opel with the Crossland and Grandland X with Peugeot substructure. The same will probably happen at least with Adam, Corsa and Insignia. So the cooperation has been knitted a longer time ago. It is no coincidence that the Bochum plant is now closed and "workplace guarantees" are only valid until 2018 and factory guarantees until 2020, a typical takeover after a partial painful adjustment by the old entrepreneur.

One can not really blame this, because for 16 years Opel writes red numbers. However, they were reduced last year from 813 to 257 million, but kept its color. Opel casts up to unusual 42 percent first registrations through the trade, so sales far below list price. Even in the breakdown statistics, there would still be room for improvement, but even more for PSA itself.

So Opel may you be present on the Chinese market, but unfortunately there are in principle Opel only with the outer cover. You could take Citroën as an example. In 1975, the company lost all of its famous independence, and now, after 40 years, has been able to stand out with a special design again, with the typical initial misfires. And when they even invenedt a new product line like DS, the company mother makes it another daughter and thus competition.

Many questions remain open at the moment: What will be with the Opel Mokka, a pure GM model, produced in Korea? But this is now to be manufactured as the only model in Eisenach due to the continuing success. One-model production has often already accelerated the exodus of a plant. Especially as a model at Peugeot Opel it will have no future.

Or the Ampera-e, on which there was so much hope for the future? Will it be presented as an Opel model, although it is only based on GM technology? Peugeot does not have any E-technology except a dubious combination of electric and diesel engines. Only Mitsubishi's i-MiEV is to be used for Opel too.

What about the center for the test of internal combustion engines in Rüsselsheim, which has just been built for more than 200 million euros? Would it be useful to test Peugeot technology there? Will Opel engines be still used in the future? What about the engine production in Kaiserslautern? The two plants of Vauxhall with only 4,500 employees are not enough mentioned enough in todays discussion. In the UK, an additional 7,000 indirectly persons are affected and another 23,000 working in Selling and trade. These figures show how many people even in Germany would have to be added to the approximately 19,000 directly affected, Either the local Opel or Peugeot dealer remains.

So did General Motors sell at all to get rid of a year-long load. Of the 1.3 billion purchase price is probably a part payed by stockpacks. There is an extra $ 900 million, but the BNP Parisbas Bank pays and hopes to make a profit in the future handling of the credit and leasing business. And then there are the 3 billion of the pension fund, which remain for GM,. So the bottom line is a minus of 800 million to get rid of Opel after 88 years. Relatively cheap, considering that the purchase for freedom of Fiat after a relatively short time was 1.55 billion. 03/17>font>
