2021 Opel Vivaro-e

Transporter, double cab, station wagon or platform

If you do not look at the instruments casually and discover the non-opening fuel filler flap at the back, you will hardly notice the difference to a Vivaro with a combustion engine. So let's concentrate on the special features of the Vivaro-e.

Loading option under the passenger seat through to the front footwell

It comes in three lengths with two battery capacities, whereby the latter fits only to the two longer versions. According to the manufacturer, that should be enough for 230 or 330 km (WLTP). Hopefully it will also be sufficient for the respective type of employment in winter.

Due to the weight of the batteries, its payload drops by approx. 200 to 1,200 kg compared to the car with diesel engine. Only the trailer load is too much for trailers without brakes and too little for those with a brake. The engine with a peak of 100 kW (136 hp) and only 260 Nm seems too small for an economy effect in ECO mode.

In the case of batteries, some of which are used throughout the group, it is still not clear whether they are gross or net. And since 100 kW can rarely be maintained up to 80 percent over the entire charging process, only tests can confirm the factory specifications. Indeed three-phase alternating current charging is good, but in companies, unlike in households, there is very often 22 instead of 11 kW.

Unfortunately, rear doors only have a 180° opening angle

The air conditioning system seems to be effective for the driver's compartment, which is not open to the rear, and the instrumentation is perfectly adequate. There seems to be more assistance and (head-up) display than usual in the class. It's just a pity that the net basic price of the cheapest Vivaro-e with the large battery is just above the limit of € 40,000, which means that potential buyers lose € 1,500 in subsidies.
