A word about the current situation: Everyone is afraid, but nobody really talks about it, the merger with PSA will cost jobs and it will probably take a long time for Opel to regain a certain independence. Just look at the example of Citroën, also deficient and taken over 1975 by Peugeot.

To the only three-year-old Opel engines generation with 1-liter three-cylinder first with and then without turbo, as well as the 1,4-liter four-cylinder with turbo, they have now added a 1.5l for the new Insignia.

This sounds a bit strange at first, but should be supplemented by its power rating of 121 kW (165 hp). Whoever thinks that old cars are much better than new ones, should have look to the Olympia of 1953-57 with also 1.5 liters capacity and 29-33 kW (40-45 hp). Instead of 94-98 there are now upto 250 Nm working.

Within the new categories, there is a two-liter engine available with 184 kW (250 hp) and 400 Nm. And of course, the the Diesel engine are not banned by Opel, especially in its Flagship, but come with similar displacements to 81-125 kW (110-170 hp).

Otherwise, the Insignia is built on a new platform from GM, has a 55 mm more outer length, 92 mm more wheelbase and less height, also for the basic setting of the seats. They state that there is much lighter, which was probably necessary. Later, the four-doors, station-, cross- and OPC-variants will come. 11/17
