2019 Opel Grandland X PHEV

No, the employees of Opel cannot be held responsible for this mistake. That comes from Peugeot and you wonder what they had in mind when they offered this car. After all there's a glimmer of hope. You only have to omit a few components and lower the price by a few thousand euros, then the world is again reasonably ok.

A PlugIn Hybrid is always worthwhile for the manufacturer because it reduces his fleet consumption, but only if it is sold in sufficient quantities. Especially this Opel would be interesting for people who have about 50 km to work and a possibility to charge there. This could be achieved by a cautious drive with low interior consumption.

But what is offered is a vehicle with a complete electric rear axle drive. Sure, Volvo has been doing that for a long time, but also a different buyer clientele. At Opel, this is now shrinking to the negligibly small number who also want to visit an off-road park at the weekend. As if this would fit with the preference for electric driving.

But perhaps it was also deliberately placed at such a high price level in order to prevent otherwise expected supply bottlenecks.

To top it all off, an equally powerful electric motor also works at the front. Of course this doesn't make sense with such a small battery capacity, but it could be the salvation for the project. You could come up with the ingenious idea, or you already have in mind to simply omit the rear drive. However one would see then also from the sales figures how pointless its addition was.

Otherwise, the choice of battery size is really fine. Also the very modest charging possibilities are justifiable. One presumably rightly assumes that nobody recharges a PlugIn on the journey, which is actually a pity. However, you could also leave the wallbox on Opel's shelves, because it doesn't matter whether you charge with 3.3 kW (household socket) or with 7.4 kW overnight or during working hours.

The PlugIn model reduces the luggage space by 124 litres. Depending on the basic version, the vehicle weight increases by 300 to 505 kg. Since the permissible total weight does not increase accordingly, you have to assume a payload reduction of 155 to 200 kg. The tank capacity is also 10 litres smaller, the purchase price more than twice as high as that of the basic model. 06/19
