The German Post offers the Streetscooter in competition with the automotive industry. But one should not be surprised if this competition now fights back. Mercedes is already the second provider that offers more at a cheaper price. And no one would have expected that from a Mercedes. The eVito can be ordered from now on (2017). But it will not be available until the second half of 2018.

And even for the planned cooperation of the German Post with Ford, Mercedes already has an answer, namely an eSprinter, but only from 2019 on. These are then in total only fully electric car No. 2 and 3 in the Mercedes group, but now comes slowly momentum in the matter. And it is aimed specifically at the transport industry and promises even lower overall costs compared to Diesel.

And to top it off, Mercedes offers a wallbox for free the first 1,000 customers. Over 1,000 kg payload at 3,200 kg promise a curb weight of less than 2,200 kg, but the Streetscooter only 1,640 kg with more loading volume. The battery with 41,4 kWh should be good for 150 or 100 km at full load and bad weather. The latter is already a credible value, because after all, the Streetscooter offers practical 80 km at 30 kWh.

Is not such an energy balance surprising, considering that 8.9 kWh corresponds to only one liter of gasoline? The customer can choose for eVitos with two maximum speeds. And with 84 kW, the power of the electric motor is almost twice as high as the Streetscooter. However, both seem to lack equipment for quick loading at public stations.

The combustion Vito is available as front, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, all with the same floor height. If the electric motor is installed in front, they can use the entire underbody for batteries having chosen for the two longest versions, but both equipped with the same battery performance.
