Mercedes Plant Düsseldorf

What a fortunate fact that the Auto-Union as a former world-famous motorcycle producer succeeded after the Second World War under the brand name DKW such a re-rise. In addition to a new factory in Ingolstadt, in 1950 took over the by war partly destroyed plant of the arms manufacturer Rheinmetall in Düsseldorf.

At the end of the fifties, the decrease came in sales of cars and motorcycles with two-stroke engines. Mercedes took over and retained the factory however after the transfer 1964-66 to VW. Since 1962 the transporter L 319 and the Minibus O 319 had been produced there.

From 1967 onwards, the L 406 D and L 408 with the surname 'Düsseldorfer Transporter' were produced there. Other commercial vehicles were added. Since 1995 the Sprinter has been manufactured, starting from 2006 together with the Crafter from VW. Meanwhile, VW has built its own factory in Poland and put a new generation on sale.

'Before the end of the decade' Mercedes wants to follow with a new Sprinter. Already there are numerous reconstruction and modernization measures at the plant. The Mercedes people are justly proud to be the only manufacturer of transporters partly produced in Germany, a total of 4 million by 2015. 04/17>/font>
