2026 Mercedes S-Class

In the video above, Ola Källenius is occasionally 'grilled' by David M. Rubenstein, but he counters this elegantly. The new S-Class also makes an appearance, which he presents during his stay in the USA.

During the interview, he emphasizes that this class benefits from all the innovative capabilities of his engineers, which is reason enough to take a closer look at this facelift. After all, more than twice as many Mercedes as BMWs have been sold in this class in recent years.

What could possibly be improved on a model like this? Mercedes is still in the process of significantly enlarging the radiator grille and edging it with a luminous LED strip. After all, the many stars are part of the grill and therefore no longer so conspicuous.

Luckily for Europe, the illuminated Mercedes star on the hood is not permitted here. The light now also comes from star-shaped headlights with micro-LED technology. After all, as a high beam, it is even longer and brighter than before. However, what the front flaunts, the rear takes back. The size of the luggage compartment depends entirely on the choice of equipment.

Up to 200 liters less are possible.

If it consists, for example, of a special sound system, refrigerator, and additional high-voltage battery, then the capacity is reduced from approximately 530 liters to only about 400. In terms of engines, only the heated catalytic converter, which was previously available as an optional extra, seems to have become standard.

It has been around for a long time, and it would actually have made sense to reach the necessary 450°C more quickly, but it took a long time for it to make a real breakthrough. At least it is still being used in one of the last combustion engines.

From 2039, Daimler intends to manufacture only CO2–free cars. At least. A selectable plug-in variant with a net battery capacity of 22 kWh in such an already heavy car is a modest start. If you don't want that, there's always the EQS.

What has been neglected: Mercedes software has improved enormously. Not only does Google navigation data now work in the background. Autonomous driving level 2+ should also be possible at speeds of over 90 km/h. It is unclear what else happened under the hood.

We will report on the innovations in seat belts another time.
