2018 Vision Mercedes-Maybach

Since the Chinese like it so much, the three-box design is 'ultramodern'. So let it be, with such a super luxury car it would probably not possible otherwise. From the first impression of the car appears, although actually an SUV, pleasant pretentious.

Even the chrome portion is (but only outside), still tolerable. After all, the parts of the fenders around the wheels are black. And then these 24-inch rims, successfully imitating the look into the jet engine of a plane. The integration of the luminaires in the front and rear has also been successful, but the exaggerated chrome on the diffuser alone pulls the vehicle even visually downwards.

Undeniably the presence of Mercedes and Maybach lettering and especially emblems. The glass house in Chrome is probably unavoidable in such a car, but this design is positive miles away of what was sold last under the name "Maybach" from Mercedes.

Inside they could not control themselves anymore. It would be interesting to know what potential buyers think about the chrome rim around the steering wheel and the mighty surround of the seats made of the same material. The ambient lighting is led by the strongly blue lightend Mercedes star to a hitherto unknown climax. When driving then just the chauffeur has to deal with.

All that does not mean that the designer team or the superiors at Daimler were sitisfied pulling away this design from the normal Mercedes. Bugatti was one of the predecessors and Chevrolet's Corvette, too, who at least partially devided a vehicle into left and right. Nobody wants to be reminded of the VW Beetle with pretzel window in this context.

You notice, you can be bothered by it, especially since it is not substantiated by any technical reason and inward comparable with a stressed continuous edge of the Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic. In 1936, that may have made sense, because bending of windows was still very difficult, but today . . .

Unfortunately Daimler does not offer a single picture with the front hood open. Since you would have seen that even those, as in pre-war vehicles, in two parts left and right can only be opened. Incidentally, Chevrolet gave up the two-part rear window after a very short time. Cars with the splitted rear window became very valuable. 05/18
