2022 Mercedes EQXX

You will probably admit it in the end, this is almost too good to be true. But if you just look at the paths that Mercedes is taking here, that could significantly increase acceptance for electric cars. One can only advise VW to take a closer look at one or the other place here, so that such ideas also come into a payment region for normal wage earners.

If that reaches anywhere like that in the series, one will have outdone yourself in terms of tradition. Aerodynamics has always been an issue for this brand, but when would a Mercedes have been particularly lightweight? It is unclear whether the enormous, much lighter battery is already working or has only been promised.

Even if you don't find the car particularly beautiful or even not practical for the backbenchers, you still have to pay respect to a significantly lower CW value compared to the EQS. Because, as is well known, it is becoming increasingly difficult to design down one or the other percentage point in the top area of aerodynamics. Even the tires are supposed to be included.

First and foremost, of course, the gently rising, mostly completely closed front, the classic long tail and the diffuser that extends from 60 km/h should be mentioned. Camera mirrors instead of neatly styled mirror housings turn out to be peanuts, retractable door handles maybe as well, but this vision does not dispense with that here.

It is interesting that in the justification for the exaggerated specified range, the solar roof, which probably goes almost to the rear spoiler edge, is not mentioned in great detail, but rather its capacity is apparently used for infotainment. It will be interesting to see whether there will still be a viewing window to the rear. When such an extreme cW value is given, it is interesting to see what has contributed to it and what has been discarded.

A rolling test laboratory, although the car obviously already appears to be ready for series production. Here, too, new methods of complete construction are not only tested in one piece, but also the software for it, which combines the available installation space and static calculation with extreme weight savings. Once again, it is hard to believe that the battery is supposed to be half as heavy with roughly the same capacity as in the EQS that has just been introduced.

And of course the 1,000 km arouse doubts, because that would correspond to a consumption of less than 10 kWh/100 km. After all, Daimler itself reports an independent test of the EQS in the USA with 15 to 20 kWh/100 km. And it already has a cW value of 0.20. At least it is good that the engine performance has also been significantly limited.

And then this dashboard, a real feeling like being in a cinema seat. The only thing missing is the curtain that opens. Of course, we already know displays that span the entire width, by the way, leaving a speedometer on the left here, presumably adjustable, but when 3D is added, the experience is simply overwhelming. But that will definitely have to be restricted while driving.

All in all, another masterstroke, supposedly realized in just 18 months, astonishingly so soon after the EQS. Together with VW, there will perhaps be successful competition to the Tesla company after all, if you can keep up with production even nearly as quickly as the. And maybe then all videos outside of YouTube could be underlaid with German language.
