1988 MAN M 90




In 1977, the cooperation with Saviem comes to an end, because the company is taken over by the Renault Group. This is why the old driver's cap, which was shared by MAN and Saviem, has become obsolete. The new one becomes the most important characteristic for the F90 series introduced from 1986.

It can not offer yet the variety of laterer driver houses. It is available in two versions, 2.28 m for local traffic and 2.44 m for long-distance transport. It has for the first time already attachments made of plastic, a front flap made of fiberglass, is hydraulically tiltable, has a by 10° tilted windshield and a fully adjustable steering wheel.

Since 1977, there has been a cooperation with VW, and sincewith the LT-based range with 6 up to 9 tonnes gross vehicle weight. In the new radiator grille here the VW emblem appears instead of the Büssing lion in all vehicles from11 tons on. Here we take care of the M90, the class of medium-duty trucks from 11 up to 17 tons from the year 1983, now completely revised.

The range of 6 tons is split into the 12, 14 and 17 ton weight classes with three engines of (except the highest) 114 kW (155 HP), 137 kW (186 HP) and 169 kW (230 HP). Depending on the application, up to eight wheelbases and 16 gears are possible, from the cooperation with Eaton (Fuller) or from ZF.


The three engines (D08) are descendants of the D02 series. With almost the same displacement of the inline six-cylinder, they differ, from which the weakest is naturally aspirated, the middle one turbo-charged and the strongest additionally provided with intercooling. Only the latter needs, because of the larger injection quantity, an M-series pump, the others are sufficient for the VE pump.

Each two cylinders have a common cross-flow head and the stronger engines wet liners. The gear drive to the air compressor and the cooler made of aluminum and plastic are new. A particular challenge is still the exhaust gas legislation, which starts in 1992 with Euro 1 and 1994 with Euro 2. 01/18
