2018 Koenigsegg Regera

Actually a two-seater, which becomes a convertible thanks to the removable hardtop. The huge front and rear hood can be opened by key or mobile app. Both doors, too, but rotate 90° forward. The chassis is made from aluminum and carbon and Integrates tank and battery pack. The body is carbon or kevlar.

Front camera opens with the front brand signet.

There is a V8 turbo and at the front end of the crankshaft, an electric motor with 160 kW. The torque of both together comes to a torque converter not unusual at first glance. From there it continues without gearbox to the final drive with a normal ratio of 2.85: 1 for maximum speed. In addition, there is an electric motor with 180 kW on each side.

The torque converter supersedes the first six gears instead of one in conventional converters. From the hydraulic point of view, it is equipped with more and differently shaped blades. As soon as its input increases relative to the output speed, it provides a corresponding torque boost. The minimum speed for the converter to reach the coupling range is about 50 km/h, even at weakest acceleration. The guide wheel finishes standstill and begins to run with pump and turbine wheel.

The V8 then has idling speed. If now acceleration is wanted, immediately the converter range is back again. The guide wheel is driven to another direction and stops again. The converter area is thus particularly extended in this 'direct drive'. Of course, this is not energy-efficient, but no other type of transmission provides more torque as quickly and virtually automatically.

Also, the enormous heat development can be controlled somewhat easier by faster exchange and efficient cooling of the converter oil. The energy efficiency can be increased by the lock-up clutch, operated e.g. by the right steering wheel paddle. Christian von Koenigsegg comments this at the end of the last video below almost with disgust, because by engaging this clutch all torque growth is stopped.

So we are dealing here with a very one-sided for more performance or torque designed super sports car. Despite it is a hybrid drive, recuperation is only marginally in connection with the left steering wheel paddle. It takes up free battery capacity, which costs weight here and 'only' serves to save energy.

What looks like exhaust, is exhaust duct for electric motors.

Actually, the manufacturer adds the total power to 1,110 kW (1,500 hp). It would be compatible with the current Bugatti . He does not quite do that in the price. But the limited edition of 80 copies is already sold out. 05/18
