 Hankook
In addition to Hyundai, Kia and Ssangyong Hankook is another big player from South Korea. The company has since a long time taken a foothold in Europe, among others with a huge new tire warehouse in
Rotterdam. Sixth or seventh of the world's production, Hankook has become famous in the very important original equipment, even in vehicles at very high speeds.
Hankook plays an active role as the only supplier in the Deutschen Tourenwagen Masters, from 2017 on flanked by ATS as a rims manufacturer. Race regulations are now very complex. After
the training times additional weights are fixed very carefully for the fastest. Even the use of the Drag Reduction System, the change of the tail wing to the easy overtaking, is also given.
There have also been important changes for Hankook. The race on Saturday will be extended by 15 minutes and a mandatory pit stop. Only eight mechanics are allowed to change the tires and on each side a single
impact wrench must be handed over from one team to the other.
Perhaps even more difficult is the missing of the tires preheating. The change from hot to cold tires means a certain safety risk right after the start with low air pressure. After the pit stop, it might be even worse
because it has been switched over from warm to cold tires. However, the new dry tires have more grip, at least at the beginning.
There is more rubber on the road, because the tires wear more through the softer rubber mixture, so you have to adjust to the particular tire condition. In the case of races, more and more special features such as e.g.
consumption or in this case tire wear, strategy is more in demand than ever. Besides the DTM, Hankook also provides the Audi TT Cup and the FIA Formula 3 European Championship 05/17
