1963 Citroën 2 CV

COYS: 2CV, simplicity in Bauhaus style.

Below the first video shows the typical Citroën 2 CV of 1963. It is easy to see that it is intended for auction by COYS at Interclassics Maastricht 2017. The expected price should be interesting: 8,000 to 10,000 euros.

Hard to be typical of 1963, because also the 2CV may/must moult, accept signs of modernity. In the following year, the farewell to the "B-pillar" (suicide) doors will be included.

If you're only watching the video, you'll see the instrument in the 'dashboard' and think of it to be the speedometer. An error, because you can find it further back at the A-pillar. Why? Because there is the drive for the windshield wipers, which are driven by the tachometer cable and in the car's stand moved by the driver via a clearly visible rotary knob.

No, there is an amperemeter in the 'dashboard', which the car does not really need, because it can still be cranked. The instrument will be replaced during the year by a charging indicator light. The speedometer takes its place because the windshield wipers are now electrically driven,

After all, this 2CV already has 10 kW (14 hp) rather than 6.6 kW (9 hp), which even gets 12 kW (16 hp) in the year with a top speed of 95 instead of 85 km/h. Then also the chrome hinges come on the bumpers. A lot of change for such a simple car, but its charm it has kept. 02/17
