2021 BMW i4




It's difficult to compare prices at the moment, but when you compare the BMW i4 to the Tesla Model 3, you have to keep an eye on prices. That looks like a good € 8,000 to the detriment of the BMW, but the question is whether Tesla has not already deducted the manufacturer's share. However, there would still be a difference of almost € 5,000, with the Tesla at 75 kWh only being available with two motors.


With the i4 M50, the price gap is even wider at around € 15,000. Even if you maxed out the price of the Model 3 Performance, you can't match that of the i4 M50. However, the then has around 66 kW (90 PS) more power. But be careful, because the peak performances given here cannot be compared with those of combustion engines, because they can probably only be achieved for about 30 seconds (see boost mode).


Although it resembles it, this i4 cannot be compared to the 4 Series Coupé. Although it has almost the same wheelbase, it is 16 cm longer to gain space for the four doors. But if you compare it with the 4 Series Gran Coupé, you will find it. They actually have batteries built into such of these in the underbody and an electric drive at the front respectively front and rear. Not even the height of the body was changed.


And what's so bad about that? That tall people already have difficulty sitting at the front. At the back it seems almost impossible for them. And that with a four-door model. You have to give BMW respect, after all, they managed to get the relatively large battery in there, e.g. despite the cardan tunnel. However, the curb weight is now just about where the permissible total weight of the smallest Gran Coupé is, i.e. 500 kg more.


It is difficult to say whether the BMW kidney grille looks better now because the license plate is underlaid with a clearly visible cross member and the part above has been closed. Inside, nothing has changed except for the display behind the steering wheel with the one connected in the middle, known from the IX. It is now so freely placed that you don't know how to clean behind it. After all, it's now bigger than that in the Gran Coupe.
