Could it be that in certain companies the marketing is even better than the car itself (Video 1)? Wherein the BMW i3 is certainly not a bad car. Let us put aside the e-Golf here, because it was just not constructed specifically for the requirements of an electric drive. But compared with the market leader Nissan Leaf, then 2,000 euros less purchase price with one third more battery capacity is quite something.
And yet, the i3 sells itself like hot cakes according to the specifications of BMW. It already has a mainstay In nearly 50 countries, in China as the only car 'tax-free and without the hurdles of license plate lottery'. Did you know that the car in Japan had to be specially adapted for the local 'low height of the parking slots'?
The press release is also an overview of the very slowly forming centers of e-mobility in Europe. The size of assembly factory for the Tesla in Tilburg points e.g. to the Netherlands. In Norway, the i3 should be currently the best-selling BMW model, in USA the number 3 in case of the pure electric vehicles. Of course, it's striking that in these countries, the purchase of such vehicles is promoted through subsidies and partly by more privileges in road traffic.
The i3 really seems to be the only car with the possibility of a range extender. And BMW in turn assures that exactly this is an important reason for more conservative customers to choose precisely this car. In any case, with 9 litres of fuel in the tank can be reached the destination, even if this means all the advantages of weight reduction by carbon become obsolete. So slowly replaces the problem of acceptance, the range problem. Not so important for the brand, 60 percent of the buyers are new customers at BMW.
But beyond all advertising efforts in press releases, of course, the question remains whether the previously objectives have been achieved. One wanted to produce 30,000 a year, from that not a word in the text. But the reveals that 'more than 100 BMW i3 per day' are manufactured, which means more than 25,000 at a 5-day week which are produced and sold. However, quite so simple the sales of expensive products of e-mobility seem not to be. Even more surprising appears the number of per day 'more than 20 units' of the i8. 11/15
