2016 BMW 5 series
The 5 series is BMW's most important sold product after the 3 series and the X models. Solely 2015 were almost 350,000 units sold, more than E-Class or A6. The 5 series is still produced in
Dingolfing. The plant was significantly expanded to include the new production from the end of 2016.
The expected demand is obviously so big, that the BMW 5 is also produced at Magna in Steyr (Austria), not only the vehicles with all-wheel drive. It also does not seem to disturb that there vehicles of other
manufacturers are built too, e.g. the Mercedes G-Class and Land Rovers.
This part of the production can be reduced more easily if the demand increase.
It is now the seventh generation since 1972. Not only on the steering wheel one recognizes the trend in the direction of the 7 series, whereby it as the later appearing is again a nose length ahead in matters of
assistance systems and e.g. gesture control. It is easily recognizable by the now conclusive optical fusion of radiator grille and headlights.
Driving is more autonomous with the new 5 series. The steering in tracks can obviously be left to it up to high speeds.
On the other hand, the lane change is 'only' supported up to 160 km/h. The operation is recognizable in the steering wheel, indicated by a clear visual appearance in the display. 10/16
