Before the appearance of the turbo engine this are the fastest representatives of BMW's 'new class'. The new class was introduced in 1962 with the 1500,
and relatively quickly created a furore. While Alfa was still struggling with rigid axles and Mercedes with single-joint swing axles, this
series has for the first time produced from sheet metal profiles trailing arms which guide the individually
suspended rear wheels.
supplied with mixture by two double carburetors and the TII by Kugelfischer injection system.
