  Body - Luggage-Compartment 2

In contrast to the previous chapter, now come special cases. You can see it above at the luggage compartment of the Porsche 911 from 1970 with rear engine. Of course it can't be very big, because here also the footwell of the driver and front passenger. And then there is the tank, which has already been deliberately moved far down and forwards.

The manufacturer tries everything, even makes the spare wheel collapsible and inflatable, but there is not really much space here. One could have taken at this point also the VW Beetle, which was built by his construction goes back to the 30s, just like the Porsche 911 over the 356 to it.

The rear engine comes from a time of searching for more aerodynamics. One representative of these manifold experiments is the prototype of the VW 64 (picture above). You can already guess that even for the passengers there is not much space available, let alone for the luggage and even less for an opening to it.

Not much different is the front end of a mid-engine sports car built. At the top is the front luggage compartment of a VW-Porsche from 1969, which even holds a huge additional tank. The rare front axle with damper struts and torsion bar springs creates the comparatively largest possible luggage space and a safe arrangement of the normal tank.

However, the spare wheel must then be moved to the rear luggage compartment. This is very flat and also necessary for the folding roof. The opening to the engine compartment is separate. Other mid-engined vehicles have a deeper luggage compartment behind the engine compartment. In any case you should not transport butter in it.

With super sports cars like the Lamborghini Miura, there is no room at all for luggage at the front. But Porsche, too, remains true to its problems with luggage. In the next picture an example of the Transaxles 924/928, here as 968. You can see how high the floor of the luggage compartment must be due to the rear-mounted gearbox.
