We'll move on a step up to device in a higher category. This model has the EOBD-mode, it can request data from parts which are relevant to the exhaust gas emission, read out values and carry out certain regulating-
unit tests. Furthermore, a faster checking of the ABS-system is possible. The passenger-side airbag, e.g., can be deactivated. Start-stop-batteries have to be 'trained', the parking-brake or the SBC used for certain
tasks, must be deactivated and returned to it's basic settings, a twin-clutch gearbox must be calibrated. To summarise: Error management, sensors and control device calibration or calibration and training. Now, we
almost forgot the coding of the injectors in Diesel injection systems. The read-outs are of course, not issued in code, but ideally, as in the original description supplied by the manufacturer.
The next larger device can read out many more control devices, it can train and re-program comfort-systems. Apart from the above mentioned possibilities concerning the Diesel engine, it can also reset the service of
the particle filter. In addition, there are the functions of key-coding and all the other functions already described above. To make this easier, there is it's access to a technical information system, e.g., a repair manual
can be called up. This explains the procedure and the method of measuring.
One only has to enter the key-code to get the respective vehicle and hey presto, all the the systems in the vehicle are unraveled. Of course, there is an original picture of the required component and, e.g., also an
oscilloscope picture, so that measuring with this device is really no longer difficult. Together with the tips from the manufacturer, one can even build up a personal library, to make things easier for
oneself or for others to carry out the repair next time. Comparing notes is expressly wished. There are even manuals in the form of a film available. Of course, part of the purchasing of this type of device is the
presence of a well functioning technical hot-line.
