ABS - Motorcycle
Maybe you know such a situation as a motorist. You drive in a beautiful landscape with good weather, not necessarily slow, but not exaggerated sporty, too. At an intersection you look back to the just past valley below,
sees and hears two motorcycles in apparent distance.
You turn left and are quite surprised to be overtaken by those same motorcycles after a relatively short time. That shows they have for some motorists unexpected good driving dynamics. Added now their smaller cross
section, one can imagine how difficult at times is their detection.
It is not the greatest risk of motorbike accidents, but perhaps to mitigate by the use of ABS. Surprisingly may perhaps be for you that already Scooters (1 video below) have such a system. That it is installed only on the
front wheel may be excused by the fact that only this normally is the most important while braking.
The braking performance of a motorcycle is no longer so much dependent on the drivers ability. Fully operated even laymen can achieve a reasonable braking distance. Based on 100 km/h it is either longer or of the
same length compared to passengers car. This is due to its very small (front) contact area despite lighter weight.
Developments (3. video) allow even braking and simultaneously spreading at inclined curve positions. Very important the traction control. It is unclear whether it also replaces the special transmission between handle
and throttle in GP bikes. Or the anti-hopping clutch. 03/16
