This is the halogen-group. They are missing exactly one electron on the exreme outer shell. This is why they fit in well with the alkali metals which ave exactly this one electron on their extreme outer shell. Sodium, together with Chloric gas, produces Sodium-Chloride, which is nothing other than Saline solution. However, be very careful, because Chlorine in it's pure state is gaseous and particularly reactive, it is very dangerous for human beings.

What this means is: Something edible is produced from inedible materials. Im sure you have heard about Chlorine, even if it's only through the plastic's name, PolyVinylChloride.

Possible bondings are decided by the electrons.
