Do it Yourself?

Yes, if you promise to read this page completely. We want to propose you the changing of the wheels by yourself. But the noteworthy points start already, when you buy a new car. If this is without emergency or spare wheel, then there is neither a jack nor an adequate tool.

Suppose you have already such tools, hopefully of better quality than the standard ones, then you should choose for the torque wrench. The standard tool is limited by its length. So too much torque on the wheel bolts is not possible.

Proposal: Order neither an emergency nor a spare wheel. Instead of this take four wheels with winter tires. May be you get it cheaper during the price negotiations during purchasing the new car. If you buy via internet, the discount would also affect these wheels. Not quite lawful: For longer trips and perceived insecurity to take one wheel of the other set.

But there are other possible negative consequences. If the control system for the tire pressure works in passive mode or is not available, you can change tires without any consequences. But if there is a radio link to the tires you have to go to the workshop afterwards to let learn the system what has changed.

Precondition for any action do-it -yourself: First compare all costs. With acquisition of special tools also estimate how long you want to keep your vehicle. Sometimes comes out a minus, not to mention the work done. Example? It makes no sense, to weld the floor in front and not until then have a look to the floor in front of the rear seats.

If possible, mount the temporary spare wheel on the rear axle.

If you have overcome these difficulties, you can look forward to the following advantages:

1. You do not need a workshop date when all need it.
2. You have some variety of your fitness program.
3. Control e.g. of the bellows on drive shafts and steering thus timely avoid expensive repairs .
4. You can even monitor the wear of components, e.g. brake linings. Saves to frequent replacement .
5. Satisfaction, if you have done the job successfully. 12\15
